Animatic

Until Vimeo allows me to post the damn animatic here is how I want to ultimate animate the piece. Something like a motion comic where I can illustrate it all the way and still hold a compelling story. Right now I am working on the assets and gathering all the materials to animate with.

mOO

I think I may have to restructure my story to figure out if it makes sense to put together everything as a full animation with the chakras or kind of make one short episode with a full length trailer of what people can expect from it. That probably makes more sense then trying to push myself and not fully getting everything done because I want to get a chunk down with what I've been experimenting with. I think I also need to simplify the character designs for the project because as it stands they are super realistic. I will upload them once I don't use the non - photo blue pencils which can't be seen by scanners and copiers. Pasted here is some animations that I like that will serve as examples of how far I can push it in after effects without having to really go crazy fully animating the characters.

Revised Act 2

I love the fact the ideas of making the act 2 more about Krishna finding individual pieces of Shakti to bring back to her which are ten times better than anything with him just finding orbs. Right now I am in a fight with myself as to whether the items/pieces of her that he finds are like pieces of armor/clothing for her to use to help her fight off the demon. I also like the idea of finding individual Shaktis in environments that deal with the personality of each of chakras because of the possibility of expanding the story into several different breaks, I just worry about the time frame in getting all of this done. I have some more work to get done with narrowing down the exact small details but I feel using the personality of the chakras as lessons to help him unlock his own is a great idea to add to the depth/lessons of what the chakras are.

Summary :

Act 1 :

Krishna and Shakti have a universal loving bond that they feel can't ever be broken until one day Shakti is snatched from the heavens by a jealous demon whom wants Shakti to himself. Krishna is so depressed by this that he falls into a meditative state since he is scared of fighting the demon. Sadden by this Shakti begins to lose pieces of herself on the journey down towards Earth.

Act 2:

While leaving behind pieces of herself scattered across the Earth plane Shakti must confront her kidnapper. Gathering up the last bit of her strength she fights off the demon and drives him away. The demon vows to come back after Shakti once he is able to regain strength. Breathing a sigh of relief Shakti starts the process of trying to find her way back to Krishna. Shakti spends years looking for the pathway, within this time period the demon is able to regain his powers so he attacks Shakti again. Fearing that she doesn't have the power to defeat him this time she screams out for Krishna's aid. Hearing the cry Krishna is snapped out of his meditative state and rushes downward to find her. Along the way Krishna meets multiple Shakti's that have been pulled out her original self, and he solves their problems so that he can bring them back to Shakti. Every time he solves a puzzle from the other Shakti's he gets a piece of element that each chakra represents.

Act 3 :

Upon finishing the last puzzle he comes across Shakti whom is running around from the demon. Krishna gives Shakti all of her chakras back so they may evolve into their true spiritual selfs to defeat the demon. They do just that and go back to their home within the heavens to keep a watchful eye on the Earth and continue their everlasting love.

Chakra Pitch(revised)

Story:

The story for the animation that I am proposing for the semester will be a homage to the great Indian tale of Ramayana. For generations the story of Ramayana has been past down through different storytellers all over the world with the base of it revolving around the richness of Indian culture. For me the story would replace the main characters but gain two major figures in the spiritual system in India. To make a brief synopsis about the story, it is about the separation of Krishna and Shakti and the journey Krishna takes to regain the love of his life.

First Act :

The first act of the story deals with what could be considered the everlasting love of Krishna and Shakti. We don't get a back story as to how they met or all of the fluff about why they need to be together. Instead we catch a glimpse of what their relationship is like, once this is felt we are quickly torn from them with Shakti being taken away by a demon down to Earth. Helpless Krishna watches from a far and tries to figure out what he must do to get Shakti back. Krishna becomes a hermit in the heavens and plunges himself into inner sanctuary...which starts to symbolize the yoga positions one goes into to begin meditating. Here we see a major transition of Krishna as he starts to allow himself to be weathered by time until he builds up his courage to go after Shakti.

Second Act:

The second act now follows Shakti during the time where Krishna is left in heavens to consult himself. Here we have a look into what has happened to Shakti since being taken by the demon. Shakti starts to let go of herself as time passes by and that will be shown through the symbols of chakras that are being left behind during the journey from heaven to earth. Shakti holds on for dear life to keep up hope to see Krishna once more but she is so beaten down that she feels that nothing could happen to help her regain her true self. The demon tries his best to consume Shakti with grief and despair but Shakti has a lot of tricks up her sleeve and fights back against him. After being struck down by Shakti the demon dissolves away vowing to come back again. Shakti thankful for her quick action against the demon is relived but is stuck in a place of isolation with no idea of how to get back home to Krishna. She stays like this for a long period of time....which gives the demon the time it needs to regain his power and come in for a second strike. Shakti catches wind of this and lets out a shriek for Krishna to help her.

Third Act :

Upon hearing Shakti's scream reach him in heaven, Krishna awakens from his meditative state and plunges himself off of heaven's edge on to the path that Shakti was taken away on. On the way through the path Krishna gets hints at what Shakti was leaving him for clues of her whereabouts and begins to start the procedure to open up all of the pathways so that Shakti can regain her full strength to take down the demon. Once Krishna finally reaches Shakti and sees what she is up against he calls out to her in one of the mantras about how to defeat it. Together they shed their flesh and go into their spiritual forms of the intertwining snakes and defeat the demon to return back to their kingdom.

Goal :

The goal for this animation is for the viewer to leave the experience having learned about a beautiful story passed down from a rich background of storytellers, but also in some fashion picked up on some of the cultural material that is layered within the piece.

Runtime For Animation :

The runtime for this animation could be from 5 to 20 mins depending on the length of the action scenes and conveying the story not through narration. I want to show the beauty of the story through the action of the characters themselves to show how they can hold up on their own.

Personal Pitch

Idea :

My idea for this project is a continuation of my final project from Dynamic Imaging 1. The emphasis for that project was the psychoanalysis of myself done within Cinema 4D and After Effects. The main idea behind this project was to showcase my inner thoughts through the process of automatic drawing and showcase it through a number of techniques taught to me from the class. This project will focus on portraying the seven chakras through a variety of techniques that stem from the idea of automatic drawing, except the emphasis is now on dictating emotion through the history of the chakra, what it means, the mudra that comes with it, the sound, and the colors.

If there are some plugins available to assist me that are free then they will be used on my home computer so that the school isn't charged.
